Establishment of a Youth Civic Organization "Nova Heneratsiia"
The Public Organisation “Hromadskyi Tsentr “Nova Heneratsiia” (NGO “Civic Center “New Generation”) traces its origins to April 8, 1993. On this day, an initiative group of students from Kherson State Pedagogical University (now Kherson State University) was formed, driven by a desire to actively participate in Ukraine’s national revival through civic activities.
Foundation and Early Work
On September 23, 1993, a founding conference was held to establish the youth civic organization “Nova Heneratsiia.” The Organization’s goal was to promote national and cultural revival and foster a new elite for the young Ukrainian state. It marked the creation of the first modern youth organization in the city of Kherson after the official youth unions of the Soviet era had disbanded. The Organization quickly became an active participant in the civic life of the Kherson territorial community and gradually expanded its activities to other communities in Kherson region.
A landmark project of that period was the “Sichegrad” children’s camp. It involved schoolchildren in a game-based model of a city’s operation. Activists helped children learn the basics of “adult life in a modern city,” teaching them how to plan and conduct business, use local democracy mechanisms, and collaboratively solve problems.
